The NSF-Research Experience for Undergraduates ‘Intersection of Linguistics,
Language and Culture’ (ILLC) workshop on ‘Applying to Graduate School’ was
held online on Sunday October 17 2021. In line with the objective of the
NSF-REU site that is to increase diversity in the body of research in
linguistics and speech-language-hearing-communication sciences and among
researchers and practitioners in the field, much information is relevant to
members of under-represented groups in higher education.

The slides of the presentations (incl. information on admission criteria, how
to select a program that matches individual student interests and educational
journey, funding and career opportunities) as well as additional material on
how to fund graduate studies are available, until March 31 2022, to all who
complete a short survey:

https://undergrad-language-research.org/grad-application-workshop/

What participants say about the workshop…
“This is a lot of information to process. However everything is precise and
interesting. I’m glad the slides will be available to us. I am sure I will go
over them numerous times throughout my academic career. I don’t think I’ve had
this much useful information presented to me in my entire life! Thank you
all!”
“It is rare to find workshops that discuss varying disciplines and with so
many professionals presenting and giving advice so it was great to see that.”
