Description:

The English Department at Baruch College of the City University of New York
(CUNY) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position
with a focus in Theoretical / Computational Linguistics. The successful
candidate will serve as Assistant Professor in the English Department
beginning August 25, 2022. 

The College is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to our
mission of educating one of the most diverse student bodies in the U.S.
Successful candidates will collaborate with current faculty to help design and
teach upper division courses in linguistics and first-year writing for
multilingual students. 

The Assistant Professor of Theoretical/Computational Linguistics will have
expertise within the following: general theoretical linguistics (syntax,
semantics, phonology, historical linguistics) and/or computational
linguistics. Additional welcome areas of interest may include natural language
processing, underrepresented/minority languages, language variation and
bilingualism, world Englishes, writing studies, corpus linguistics, and/or
computer-assisted language learning. The candidate would be able to engage
with the applied orientation of the department, teaching theoretical
linguistics to a general audience of students while inciting interest in its
growing practical applications. The successful candidate will demonstrate the
capacity to work across disciplinary interests within the English Department,
and with college departments and programs such as Modern Languages,
Translation Studies, Mathematics and Computer Science, and/or Black and Latino
Studies.

Qualifications: 
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. by August 26, 2022, in Linguistics, English,
or a related field. Applicants should have experience teaching on the
undergraduate level, with preference given to those who have taught or
developed upper division courses in linguistics and who have experience
teaching first-year writing, particularly courses devoted to ELL students.
Evidence of teaching excellence is required. Applicants also should have a
good understanding of and experience with teaching a diverse student body.
