Balkan Turkic Workshop

Meeting Description: 

The workshop will focus on three main themes: (i) grammatical changes that the
Turkic varieties of the Balkans (e.g. West Rumelian Turkish, Western Thracian
Turkish, Gagauz, etc.) have undergone, (ii) understanding language change in
BT within the contact setting of the Balkans, and (iii) methods for the study
of language change in BT. The program will feature invited talks by Matthias
Kappler (Ca' Foscari University of Venice), Yaron Matras (University of
Manchester), Maria Petrou (University of Giessen), and Julian Rentzsch
(Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz). The workshop will be held as a joint
event of the project ''Head directionality change in Turkic in contact
situations'' at the University of Potsdam (https://bit.ly/3o1gYAA, a
sub-project of the Research Unit ''Emerging Grammars'') and of the
Berlin-Brandenburg Turkic Linguistics Network.
