University or Organization: University of Macau
Department: Faculty of Arts and Humanities
Job Location: Taipa, Macau, China
Web Address: https://fah.um.edu.mo/
Job Title: Senior Instructor/Instructor of English
Job Rank: Instructor

Specialty Areas: Language Acquisition

Required Language(s): English (eng)

Description:

The University of Macau (UM) is the only public comprehensive university in
Macao. Leveraging this unique advantage, UM aims to establish itself as a
world-class university with regional characteristics. English is its working
language.

The English Language Centre (ELC) of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities
invites applications for the positions of Senior Instructor/Instructor of
English. The ELC is committed to empowering students to succeed in University
studies and in life by engaging them in English, academic, and global skills
learning. The ELC seeks to achieve its goals through the provision of courses
in English for academic purposes, a writing centre, co-curricular language
learning activities, and organizing summer programmes for pre-sessional
students.

Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a Master’s degree in TESOL/TEFL/ELT (or closely
related fields in English Education or Applied English Linguistics with
pedagogy training). Applicants should have extensive EAP/ESP teaching
experience at the tertiary level or equivalent, preferably teaching EFL/ESL
students in English-medium higher education context. The candidates should
demonstrate experience in (1) curriculum and material development in teaching
English for academic purposes (four skills, grammar and vocabulary, academic
skills and strategies), and in (2) technology-enhanced classroom learning as
well as developing e-learning exercises. Updated knowledge and experience in
current pedagogy, assessment, programme planning, and activity organization
will be an advantage.

The successful candidates should possess the following abilities: effective
ELT pedagogy in student-centred approaches, strong ability to build rapport
with and motivate students, organizational skills, communication skills,
collegiality, teamwork, and leadership skills. Excellent command of English is
expected. The ability to speak Chinese is not required. The candidate is
expected to engage in the Centre’s committee works and projects, and provide
professional services to the University and the community. Academic research
and publication are not required for the positions, but a specific
pedagogy-oriented research interest/agenda is welcome. The appointed
instructor(s) is expected to rotate and teach in the summer programme during
the student summer recess period.

The selected candidate(s) is expected to assume duty on the 1 August 2022.

Position and Remuneration:
A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP541,450 (approximately
USD66,850) will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s academic
qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum
income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various
discretionary exemptions. Apart from competitive remuneration, UM offers a
wide range of benefits, such as medical insurance, provident fund, on-campus
accommodation/housing allowance and other subsidies.

The effective position and salary index are subject to the Personnel Statute
of the University of Macau in force. The University of Macau reserves the
right not to appoint a candidate. Applicants with less qualification and
experience can be offered lower positions under special circumstances.

***Personal data provided by applicants will be kept confidential and used for
recruitment purpose only***
** Under the equal condition of qualifications and experience, priority will
be given to Macao permanent residents**

Applicants should visit the application link below for more details, and apply
ONLINE on or before the 31 December 2021. Applicants may consider their
applications not successful if they are not invited for an interview within 3
months of application.
