Meeting Description:

Workshop. Language change: Predication and discourse aspects

November 18-19 2021
Departamento de Letras y Lingüística
Universidad de Sonora

The annual workshop organized at the University of Sonora has focused on
topics related to syntactic complexity: clause combining, voice mechanisms,
grammaticalization processes, and language change, among others. The
discussion of these topics has enabled us to broaden our typological knowledge
of linguistic aspects concerned with predication and discourse. To explore
these topics, a typological, functional, and diachronic vision has been
adopted from which it has been possible to incubate, develop, and consolidate
a space of theoretical-methodological concern in relation to the study of
minority and typologically diverse languages.

Call for Papers:

The academic research group Estudios lingüístico-tipológicos y etno-culturales
en lenguas indígenas y minoritarias invites abstracts for 20-minute oral
presentations on any of the following topics:

A. Language change and predication
B. Discourse: rhetorical, cognitive-pragmatic and morphosyntactic mechanisms

Confirmed Invited Speakers:

Mily Crevels, Leiden University Center for Linguistics
Andrej A. Kibrik, Lomonosov Moscow State University
Søren Wichmann, Leiden University Center for Linguistics
Simon Overall, University of Otago
Claudine Chamoreau, CNRS-SEDYL
Alena Witzlack-Makarevich, Hebrew University of Jerusalem

Due to the health contingency that we are going through, the workshop will be
held as a fully virtual event. Abstract must be sent to
seminario.ca.uson81 at gmail.com or zarinaef at gmail.com

Important Dates:

Call Deadline: September 30 2021
Acceptance Notification: October 10 2021
Date: November 18-19 2021
