Job Title: Anthropological Linguistics and Data Science
Job Rank: Asst/Assoc Professor

Specialty Areas: Anthropological Linguistics; Data Science

Description:

The University of Miami is among the top research universities and academic
medical centers in the nation, and one of the largest private employers in
South Florida.

With more than 16,000 faculty and staff, the University strives for
excellence, and is driven by a powerful mission to transform and impact the
lives of its students, patients, members of the community, and people across
the globe.

The University is committed to fostering a culture of belonging, where
everyone feels valued and has the opportunity to add value. Through values of
Diversity, Integrity, Responsibility, Excellence, Compassion, Creativity, and
Teamwork (DIRECCT) the U community works together to create an environment
driven by purpose, excellence, community, and service.

The University of Miami (UM) Department of Anthropology seeks a language
researcher, whose work relies on the tools of data science and who is eager to
collaborate across (sub)fields, for a faculty position at the Assistant or
Associate Professor rank. We desire an active researcher to join a department
whose faculty conduct research in archeology, linguistics, physical
anthropology, primatology, and cultural anthropology. The successful applicant
will have a strong publication record on topics potentially including language
evolution, linguistic typology, cognitive linguistics, and/or the intersection
of language and culture. Any related areas of specialization will be
considered, however, if the applicant incorporates quantitative data analysis
to illuminate anthropological concerns, broadly construed. The ideal candidate
would have an established record of original research, funding, teaching, and
publication, and should be able to express how undergraduate and graduate
students would be engaged in similar efforts going forward.

A Ph.D. in Anthropology or a related field must be in-hand by the position
start date, August 15, 2022. While a degree in the specific field of
Anthropology is preferred, it is not required, as long as the candidate has a
Ph.D. in-hand and his/her research focuses on issues of anthropological
import. This is a tenure-track position with a teaching assignment of two
courses per semester. Review of applications will commence immediately and
will continue until October 31, 2021. Applications shall be submitted via the
UM Faculty Careers website at the application link below. Applications should
include a curriculum vitae, a letter of interest, a brief document describing
your plans for future research, a document describing your teaching
philosophy, a document explaining your commitment to diversity, and the names
of at least three references. For any questions regarding this position,
please contact Caleb Everett at the email address provided below.

The University of Miami is an Equal Opportunity Employer -
Females/Minorities/Protected Veterans/Individuals with Disabilities are
encouraged to apply. Applicants and employees are protected from
discrimination based on certain categories protected by Federal law. See
