Hello one and all...

It's that time of year again: the annual recruitment drive for TeachLing, the
world's biggest online community for university linguistics teaching! As the
seasons change, so too do many people's careers - taking up a first teaching
post, moving from one post to another, or perhaps gathering a collection of
them. All are welcome! We currently have 977 members from all over the world;
will you be the 1000th?

Teachling hosts regular useful discussions about a delightful diversity of
pedagogical topics and subdisciplinary areas. We talk about everything from
the latest innovations in technologically enhanced techniques to the grand old
traditions of walk, talk and chalk. Come and join the fun!

I also usually take this opportunity to remind everyone of a resource I put
together in 2014, and which I've kept updating since: a full list of all the
linguistics-related strips from my favourite web comic, XKCD!
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1a5NVCfw1wLiq6ySgIFjBpyflv4QVbUJysatEegEfjL
0/. Useful in bringing presentations to life. For other comics related to
linguistics, there's also this page by Hal Schiffman (U Penn):
http://ccat.sas.upenn.edu/plc/clpp/images/cartoons/cartoons.html. (Discussions
on TeachLing are usually more pedagogically robust, honest.)

So, hopefully all that is enough to entice you into the warm embrace of our
little community. If so, add your name and email address here:
https://goo.gl/34wVVk. (People on mobile gadgets will need to install the
Google Docs app first.)

Please forward this message far and wide, and please share the tweet
announcement too! https://twitter.com/DaveJSayers/status/1441288814442409986

See you on TeachLing :)

Dave
