Subject: Can the operator raising analysis of Chomsky 1981 be extended to the PRO subject of a purpose clause?

Chomsky 1981 analyzes the control relation in a sentence like (1) as holding
between the matrix object and on operator raised from the object of the
infinitival clause as shown in (2).

(1) Maria put a platform on the floor for Sandra to stand on.
(2)  Maria put a platform/i on the floor [ O/i [ for Sandra to stand on t/i. ]
]

Assuming this analysis is correct, is there any reason why it could not be
extended to the control relation in a sentence like (3) so that here control
would hold between the matrix object and an operator raised from the subject
of the infinitival clause as shown in (4)?

(3) Maria put a robot on the stage to destroy itself.
(4) Maria put a robot/i on the stage [ O/i [ t/i to destroy itself. ] ]

Thank you in advance for any insight provided.
