Subject: Rethinking Representations, Inclusion and Social Justice in World Language Teaching: Insights for Research and Pedagogy

Over the last two decades, world language teaching has experienced various
modifications to suit the current state of education. Educational leaders are
moving away from the “one size fits all approach” and recognizing how
traditional teaching methods alienate marginalized groups, language varieties,
and the reality of what it is to speak and be a speaker of a language.

Overcoming the barriers that hinder these social and linguistic realities in
the language classroom begins with the rethinking of representations,
inclusion, and social justice in the world language classroom. This collection
is thus aimed at identifying these barriers present in the world language
classroom and to propose strategies for the implementation of a more
representative, inclusive, and social justice- based curriculum.

The language of the volume is English, and we welcome papers that highlight
the importance of representation, social justice, and inclusivity in any and
all world language curriculum from a research and pedagogy lens.

We welcome the following topics, among others:
- Textbook representation(s)
- Indigeneity and language
- Gender and Identity in language teaching
- Ideologies and Attitudes
- Representations of minority language speakers
- Implementing diverse curriculum and teaching approaches
- Critical language pedagogies
- Teaching historically marginalized groups
- Reconsidering traditional teaching techniques
- Raciolinguistics and language learning
