Meeting Description:

The Department of Linguistics and Languages at McMaster University is pleased
to announce that it will host the 31st annual meeting of Formal Approaches to
Slavic Linguistics (FASL), which will be held in a hybrid format (partially in
person, partially virtually) on June 24-26, 2022.Abstracts are invited for
talks on topics in formal Slavic linguistics, including phonetics, phonology,
morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, psycholinguistics, and
computational linguistics. Both theoretical and experimental studies that have
consequences for linguistic theory are welcome.

Invited Speakers:

- John Frederick Bailyn (Stony Brook University)
- Tatiana Igorevna Bondarenko (MIT; invited student speaker)
- Neda Todorović (UBC)
- Veno Volenec (Concordia University)

The conference will be held in-person at McMaster University (Hamilton, ON,
Canada) and virtually on June 24-26, 2022

All questions about submissions should be emailed to
fasl.mcmaster.2022 at gmail.com.

Program:

The registration for FASL 31 is now available at:
https://fasl.humanities.mcmaster.ca (open until 4pm EST on Thursday, June
16).  We hope that you will join us at the conference either in person, or
virtually! (Registration is required both for virtual and in person
attendance.)

You can find the full program and other information about the conference on
our website: https://fasl.humanities.mcmaster.ca as well.

The conference will feature talks and posters on all aspects of formal Slavic
linguistics, with no parallel sessions. Our invited speakers are John
Frederick Bailyn (Stony Brook University), Tanya Bondarenko (Massachusetts
Institute of Technology), Veno Volenec (Concordia University) and Neda
Todorović (The University of British Columbia).

This year's conference will also feature a best student competition, sponsored
by the ACL|CLA (Association canadienne de linguistique/Canadian Linguistic
Association), and a Pop-Up Mentoring event (PUMP; for more information how to
sign up see below).

Finally, I would like to bring to your attention that McMaster University has
created a fund for forcibly displaced students and scholars, with the priority
given to students and scholars from Ukraine. We're still awaiting details on
the scholar fund but students can already apply. More information can be found
here: https://dailynews.mcmaster.ca/articles/mcmaster-bursary-supporting-forci
bly-displaced-students-now-open-to-eligible-applicants/. If you know any
linguistics or psycholinguistics students in need, please do share this
opportunity with them and ask them to contact me directly
(kucerov at mcmaster.ca).

FASL 31 is going to host a Pop-Up Mentoring Program (PUMP) event. PUMP
(sponsored by the LSA Committee on Gender Equity) provides one-off mentoring
meetings at linguistics conferences around the world. PUMP matches one or more
mentees with mentors who can provide quick but personalized career advice to
linguists at any stage: anyone can be a mentee or mentor, the more the
merrier.

You can register as a mentee here, and as a mentor here. We almost always have
a lot of mentee interest so we especially encourage relatively senior
linguists to apply as mentors if they think they can. The deadline for
registering as a mentee or a mentor for this event is June 17. After you
register, you will receive an email matching you with your mentor or mentee,
with details about how to meet. Please email Jessica Rett (rett at ucla.edu) with
any questions about the FASL 31 PUMP event.
