ISOCTAL4 will be hosted at University of Leeds hybrid live and online, 20-21
June, 2022. ISOCTAL, a bi-annual event, continues to be a high platform for
frontline research in Chinese theoretical and applied linguistics, a promotion
channel for global collaboration across disciplines and a network for future
development and innovation.

We are honoured at Leeds to have six invited plenary speakers, Professor Zhao
Yang from Peking University, Professor He Lin from Wuhan University, Professor
Boping Yuan from Cambridge, Professor George Zhang from Richmond American
University, Professor Wang Jun from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Mr
David Su Liqun from Meridian Chinese Studies. Plenary talks will be either

comparative studies, child language acquisition, second language acquisition
and processing, bi/multilingualism, code-switching, applications of theory to
pedagogy.

Abstracts should be no more than 400 words long, excluding references, and can
be submitted in English – if submitted in Chinese, and you intend to present
your talk in Chinese, please also submit an English version (400 words for

Notification of acceptance 20 May, 2022.

See more information on our website - www.isoctal.com

ISOCTAL-4 follows a longer gap than usual, due to the pandemic. Given current
conditions, we plan for a hybrid approach, enabling participation online from
outside the UK, but also allowing other speakers and attendees to come in
person to Leeds to enjoy some in-person networking. We are grateful to the
University of Leeds School of Languages, Cultures and Societies, and to Leeds
University Business Confucius Institute for supporting the event, and we plan
for the event to be a lively way to restart this valuable research network of
scholars interested in Chinese linguistics.

Attendance fees will be kept low to encourage people to attend in person: £10
for PhD students and those without permanent academic appointment; £30 for
salaried academics. We will have some bursaries in addition up to £100 to
support students without any access to conference funding to help towards
accommodation costs.
