Description:

The Chair of English Linguistics at Ruhr-University of Bochum is seeking a
temporary full-time research fellow to cover during the parental leave of
their research fellow and lecturer. The Chair specialises in the description
of the English language in its global varieties. We conceive of English as a
pluricentric language, which constantly evolves in multilingual contexts, and
we place particular focus on sociolinguistic and empirical approaches. 

The research fellow / lecturer supports the Chair in their research
activities, which currently relate to varieties of English on the African
continent and uses of English in diverse social classes. They also contribute
to the Chair's course offerings in English linguistics.

The successful candidate's tasks comprise the following:
 - contribution to the Chair's research projects
 - student supervision

The successful candidate will 
 - have completed an MA or PhD in English linguistics or a related subject
 - ideally have experience in researching and teaching varieties of English,
world Englishes, multilingualism or English as a lingua franca
 - have very good English language proficiency
 - have very good knowledge of current theories of and methods in English
linguistics

The contract will initially run from February 21, 2023 until May 30, 2023.
However, the colleague currently holding the position has indicated that they
intend to apply for parental leave for until approximately end of March, 2024,
until when the contract can then be extended.
