Description:

This role is for a Lecturer (equivalent US: Assistant Professor) whose
research interests and/or background will enable them to play a key role in
strengthening the department's engagement with the University of Canterbury
Strategy. 

The successful applicant will have one or more of the following
characteristics:
 - The ability to work well with students, in particular Māori students, and
staff from differing academic and cultural backgrounds.
 - A research program that engages with Māori knowledge.
 - The ability to strengthen material relating to te reo Māori and/or te ao
Māori in our taught programs, such as teaching on the linguistics of te reo
Māori, language revitalisation, linguistic identity, language and social
justice, and/or Aotearoa New Zealand's unique linguistic landscape.
 - The ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships with iwi, and
key indigenous collectives and organisations.
 - The ability to supervise work produced in te reo Māori.

In addition to having one or more of the above characteristics, you will also
have:
 - the ability to teach into our linguistics program, through the core
subjects already offered, by developing new subjects in your area of
expertise, or through a combination of both.
 - experience in thesis supervision, or the capacity to attract and supervise
new research students. 
 - an appropriate research publication history, and/or plans for future
research and publications consistent with appointment at Lecturer rank. 
 - a research programme in Linguistics or a closely aligned field. 
 - The ability to work independently and collaboratively in your area of
research.
