Description:

The Department of French and Italian at UT Austin seeks to hire an Advanced
Assistant/Associate Professor of Instruction to serve as the Director of the
French Language Program. The position begins in the fall semester of the
academic year 2023-2024. This is a renewable, non-tenure track position. We
are looking for an experienced educator with established competence in
language pedagogy, technology-assisted instruction, and knowledge of current
issues and methods in the teaching and learning of French as a second
language. Duties of the Director of the French Language Program will entail
the teaching of undergraduate French language courses as well as the teaching
of a graduate-level teaching methods course. In addition, the position
requires coordinating the instruction of elementary and intermediate French
language courses, both hybrid and online, as well as supervising and mentoring
graduate student teaching assistants.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in French or a related field, with specialization
in second language acquisition, foreign language education, or applied
linguistics. Candidates are expected to have native or near-native fluency in
French and demonstrate excellence in French language teaching. Preference will
be given to candidates with experience in course supervision and/or language
program coordination. We seek colleagues with research interests in innovative
approaches to second pedagogy, curriculum development, teacher education, and
language technology. We are interested in candidates who will contribute to
diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching and
service.
