Meeting Description:

‘CMC-corpora 2022’ is the 9th edition of an annual conference series dedicated
to the development, analysis, and processing of corpora of computer-mediated
communication and social media for research in the humanities. The conference
brings together language-centred research on CMC and social media in
linguistics, communication sciences, media studies, and social sciences with
research questions from the fields of corpus and computational linguistics,
language and text technology, and machine learning.


Call for Papers:

The 9th Conference on Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) and Social Media
Corpora will be held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, from Wednesday 28 to
Thursday 29 September 2022. It will be hosted by the Faculty of Philology of
the University of Santiago de Compostela. In the event that the pandemic
situation makes travel difficult or impossible, the conference will take place
in a hybrid or remote format.

‘CMC-corpora 2022’ is the 9th edition of an annual conference series dedicated
to the development, analysis, and processing of corpora of computer-mediated
communication and social media for research in the humanities. The conference
brings together language-centred research on CMC and social media in
linguistics, communication sciences, media studies, and social sciences with
research questions from the fields of corpus and computational linguistics,
language and text technology, and machine learning.

We welcome submissions broadly related to CMC and corpora, including (but not
limited to):

Important Dates:
- Deadline for abstract submission: Friday 20 May 2022, 23:59 CET
- Notification of acceptance: Friday 17 June 2022
- Deadline for registration: Wednesday 31 August 2022, 23:59 CET
- Conference: Wednesday 28 – Thursday 29 September 2022

Submission:
We invite submissions for talks and for posters on any topic relevant to the
list of themes mentioned above. All submitted proposals and the resulting
presentations must be written in English, the conference language. Submissions
will be collected through the online platform EasyChair:
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cmc20220. Two types of submissions are
available:

- Paper presentations: abstracts should not exceed 500 words, not including
the title and references.
- Posters (for work in progress or early-stage research): abstracts should not
exceed 300 words, not including the title and references.

Abstracts will be double-blind peer reviewed by two members of the scientific
committee. Authors of accepted papers can present their work at the conference
in 30-minute timeslots: 20-minute talks, followed by 10 minutes of discussion.
Posters will be on display in a dedicated area during the two days of the
conference. There will also be a special time slot for poster discussion,
preceded by a specific session where authors will be able to make a pitch for
their posters. Before the start of the conference, a book of abstracts will be
published online and made available to participants. After the conference, all
paper and poster presenters will be invited to submit extended versions of
their papers for a peer-reviewed special issue of the Research in Corpus
Linguistics journal.
