Description:

Universitat Pompeu Fabra, the Research and Expertise Centre for Survey
Methodology (RECSM) and Universitat de Girona are looking for a recent
Computer Scientist graduate with an interest to pursue a Ph.D. in Technology. 

RECSM is a multidisciplinary centre focusing on research in survey
methodology, linguistic and survey research, survey data analysis,
experimental research, political behaviour, statistical methods for the social

The Doctoral Programme in Technology incorporates all the lines of
technological research undertaken at the UdG and its general objective is to
train highly qualified researchers in this field who will be equipped with the
professional and personal skills and abilities to successfully join national

The position is directed to recent graduates (or last year Master’s students)
of computer science, information systems, informatics or similar areas. Its
continuation is conditional on being accepted in the PhD program and on
fulfilling yearly requirements of both the PhD and the tasks related to the
job. The position is located in Barcelona and Girona, Spain.

Task and responsibilities:
 - You will work on developing software for social research (programming
task).
 - You will work as a devops engineer (data engineering task).
 - You will develop new lines of social and political computational research.
 - You will work on a Ph.D. in Technology, Research Area 2. Networked and
agent-based information systems
 - You will work with a team of researchers and programmers, in an
international environment.
 - You will work on literature review of methods/applications in computational
social sciences.
 - You will publish in international peer-review journals and present at
academic conferences.
 
The successful candidate should have excellent written, oral and electronic
communication skills in English and be familiar with MySQL, MongoBD, Java,
Solidy and similar languages such as C#. Familiarity with Maven, PHPH, unit
testing, web development and Jenkins is considered a plus, as well as being
familiar with software engineering project patterns and clean coding. Problem
solving and analytical skills, ability to work with limited supervision and
capacity of delivering results and meet deadlines are also required.
