Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Berkeley, is
seeking a lecturer in Phonetics.

Duties include teaching six courses (three per semester), including Ling 110
“Phonetics” (for undergraduate students), Ling 113 “Experimental Phonetics”
(for undergraduate students), Ling 10 “Sounds of English” (a lower-division
undergraduate course), a graduate linguistics course, and two others to be
determined.

Additional duties include holding regular office hours, calculating grades,
advising students, preparing course materials and exams, managing graduate
student instructors, and attending appropriate meetings/orientations, etc.

UC Lecturers are academic appointees in an organized bargaining unit and are
exclusively represented by American Federation of Teachers - Unit 18.

For those who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit
that allows work in the United States (such as a U.S. visa that allows
employment) is required by the start date of the position. The department is
unable to provide a visa/work permit for this position.

 - PhD (or equivalent international degree) in Linguistics and demonstrated
excellence in teaching courses at the college level.
