COVID-19 Linguistics:
A freely accessible special collection of Linguistics Vanguard

Linguistics Vanguard
(https://www.degruyter.com/view/journals/lingvan/lingvan-overview.xml)
solicits papers on the impact of COVID-19 on language and linguistics, as well
as on the response of linguists to the COVID-19 crisis, for a special
collection of the journal. The journal's publisher, De Gruyter Mouton, has
agreed that all papers published as part of this collection will be freely
accessible.

The editorial team of Linguistics Vanguard recognizes that linguists are
responding in a range of ways to the important role of language in the crisis
as well as changes to research necessitated by COVID-19. We seek to provide an
outlet through which these responses can be disseminated as peer-reviewed
research papers. Possible topics for these papers can include, but are not
limited to:

-Making use of linguistic expertise to address problems connected to the
COVID-19 crisis
-Using linguistic data analysis techniques to help better understand the
impact of COVID-19 on society
-Adapting linguistic research methods to allow for data collection without
in-person interactions
-Investigating how patterns of language use and communication have been
altered by in response to the disease

Linguistics Vanguard publishes concise papers on any topic within linguistics,
with a target length of 3000-4000 words. It is open to work introducing
innovative methodologies whose impacts have yet to be fully explored, papers
documenting online linguistic resources, descriptions of research projects
which did not yield the expected results, or snapshots of work in progress.

As a multimodal journal, it is published solely online and provides an
accessible platform supporting both traditional and new kinds of publications.
The nimble review process of the journal is designed to allow for a quick
turnaround time from submission to decision. For this special issue, review
procedures will take into account the importance of fostering a broad and
timely discussion of language and linguistics in the era of COVID-19.

Please submit your paper via the following URL:
https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/lingvan
Include the keyword COVID-19 in any submission to this collection.

Questions about potential submissions to this special collection should be
directed to linguistics.vanguard at degruyter.com.

We anticipate closing submissions to this special collection at the end of
2022, though papers relating to COVID-19 and linguistics will still be
accepted as regular submissions after that point.
