Description:

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Brigham Young University invites
applications for a Continuing Faculty Status-track position (analogous to
tenure-track) or a one-year visiting faculty position to begin Fall 2022 in
Portuguese Studies; preference will be given to specialists in Portuguese
Second-Language Pedagogy or Portuguese Applied Linguistics. Initial rank will
be consistent with qualifications and experience. 

The position requires a PhD in foreign/second language education, second
language pedagogy, applied linguistics, Portuguese or Brazilian literature,
cultural studies, linguistics, or translation /interpretation studies. Foreign
degrees are acceptable. The required degree must be completed by August 23,
2022. The successful candidate must speak and write Portuguese and English at
the ACTFL Superior level. 

Duties and expectations include teaching a variety of courses in the
Portuguese BA and MA programs, supervising undergraduate Portuguese language
courses, advising undergraduate and graduate students and mentor them in
research initiatives and projects, producing scholarly works or other texts
appropriate to the discipline in peer-reviewed venues in a timely manner, and
fulfilling administrative and service assignments in accordance with
department and university needs. 

This position requires a willingness and affirmative commitment to abide by
BYU’s Honor Code and Dress & Grooming Standards, which are based on the
standards of the university’s sponsoring church.
