Tentative Title: International Student Mobility: Towards New Goals and
Challenges

Short description of the intended volume:

International student mobility has come to occupy an increasingly prominent
position in Higher Education (Baker, 2016) with the initial purpose to feed
academic interests and needs. However, over time, the aims of international
student mobility evolved and are no longer the same. In the year 1996, the
European Commission allocated three explicit objectives to the experience of
spending a few months studying in another European country: to benefit
students educationally, linguistically, and culturally; to promote cooperation
between institutions; to contribute to the development of a pool of
well-qualified, open-minded and internationally experienced future
professionals. By 2008, mobility programs aimed to promote lifelong learning,
encourage access to education for everybody, and help people acquire
recognized qualifications and skills (European Commission, 2008). In 2014 the
European Commission distinguished new aims that included building
international networks, active participation in society, and a sense of
citizenship and European identity development. And recently, the situation has
drastically changed as a result of a Covid-19 breakout. Thus, the collection
aims to understand the present-day goals, achievements, and failure of
international student mobility from various perspectives.

The topics include but are not limited to:

- cross-linguistic competences
- mobility and cross-culturalism
- cooperation among Higher Education institutions
- international experiences and student employability
- international student networks
- identity and citizenship
- equity and discrimination
- international faculty experiences
- challenges students face
- student mobility and Covid-19

The aspects above should be considered with respect to international student
mobility
