Meeting Description:

In recent years, universities have experienced renewed calls to reassess their
administrative and pedagogical practices (e.g., recruitment, curriculum and
selection of candidates for scholarships, etc.) in order to challenge racial,
gendered, sexual or ableist systems of discrimination, which often remain
inconspicuous in such professional environments and contexts.
As academics questioned the relevance of these adjustments in their teachings
and disciplines, several positions have emerged: from disinterest to
enthusiasm, partial engagement or full activism. However, while critical
voices started to denounce lip-service practices, it became clear that
inserting minoritized or stigmatized voices in a program would not be enough
to topple the inegalitarian foundations put in place by centuries of white
hegemony in the university.

Call for Papers:

In this symposium, we invite researchers to submit the results of their
research, pedagogical adaptations or reflections in higher-education courses
taught in French (L1 or L2).
Envisaging this symposium as a dialogue between various practices, but also as
a site of reflection on the paradigms of intervention as well as the roles
created by potentially radical changes, we particularly welcome research on
the use of critical pedagogy (Freire 1977, Carlson 2018) in these new course
developments and program revisions.

Please note that the language of the symposium will be French.
