Specialty Areas: Computational Linguistics; Language Acquisition; Phonology; Psycholinguistics; Semantics

Description:

The Department of Linguistics in the College of Literature, Science and Arts
at the University of Michigan is seeking to fill one LEO Lecturer I position
to teach two courses in the Fall 2022 and/or Winter 2023 semesters. The
duration of a two-term appointment would be from August 29, 2022 – April 30,
2023. The appointment effort is considered 67% for two courses per semester
and is therefore benefits eligible. Depending on instructional needs, the
selected candidate may be offered an appointment to teach 3 courses either
term, and/or have the appointment renewed for a second year. Regarding
pandemic precautions: academic year 2022-23 is currently expected to be
in-person.

This is at least a 66.67% appointment in Fall 2022 and/or Winter 2023.

Duties of this position include teaching undergraduate courses at the 100-,
200-, and 300-levels, developing and providing to students a syllabus and
materials using the online course management system, evaluating and grading
students, holding regularly scheduled office hours, and handling routine
matters related to instruction. Duties may also include teaching high
enrollment courses and supervising Graduate Student Instructors (teaching
assistants). Ability to teach undergraduate courses in one or more of the
following is desired: computational linguistics, language acquisition,
phonology, psycholinguistics or semantics. Experience with interactive and
engaged teaching strategies preferred.

Must have an M.A. or PhD in Linguistics, or a closely related field, and
demonstrated experience teaching linguistics at the college-level.
Applications will be evaluated based upon each candidate’s expertise,
successful performance in the classroom, and the needs of the department.

All materials are to be combined into a single pdf document and uploaded as
one document through the University of Michigan job application website (see
application link below). Applicants must include with this application the
following materials:
 - A curriculum vitae and cover letter that clearly states courses and/or
subdisciplines the applicant would be able to teach.
 - Teaching statement
 - Copies of up to four teaching evaluations, preferably in courses in
linguistics.
 - Applicants must arrange for two letters of recommendation. At least one of
the recommendations should preferably comment on your teaching record. If
letters of recommendation cannot be included as part of the single document
uploaded through the UM job application website, have the letters of
recommendation sent to lingsearch at umich.edu.
