Description:

We are looking for an experienced and creative Senior Teaching Fellow
(Assistant Professor – Teaching) who will contribute to the department’s
teaching provision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and the support
activities associated with these.

You are an ambitious academic, with expertise in theoretical linguistics and
experience in delivering high quality teaching in linguistics modules.
Applicants with specialism in theoretical linguistics as well as one or more
of the following are encouraged to apply: 
 - research methodology for linguistics (ideally able to teach both
quantitative and qualitative methods), 
 - sociolinguistics, 
 - historical linguistics, 
 - cognitive linguistics, 
 - computational linguistics. 
You will have a PhD in a relevant field or be very close to completion and you
will have experience of teaching at university level.

This is an exciting opportunity for a theoretical linguist with an interest in
curriculum development to play a key role in the expanding provision in
linguistics at Warwick. You will have a strong record in linguistics and
research methodology and interest in pedagogic innovation. Experience or
interest in active learning pedagogies/problem-based learning is highly
desirable.

Job Purpose: 
To contribute to the Department’s teaching provision at undergraduate and
postgraduate levels and the support activities associated with these.

Duties & Responsibilities: 
Teaching: 
 - Teach and convene modules in their areas of expertise at postgraduate
and/or undergraduate levels;
 - Contribute to the teaching of other modules at undergraduate/postgraduate
level as required by the line manager, and undertake such other teaching or
teaching-related activities that are required (for example, providing academic
advice and support to students);
 - Contribute to first-marking and moderation of assessed coursework and
examination scripts, and attend the meetings of the relevant Examination
boards;
 - Be committed to the provision of equal opportunities and to the delivery of
(Applied) Linguistics modules to a diverse body of students;
 - Undertake such other duties, commensurate with the grading of the post,
that may be assigned by the Head of Department or nominee.

Supervision and Student support: 
 - Supervise students undertaking research at undergraduate and master’s
level;
 - Act as personal tutor to students.

Administration: 
 - Undertake module and programme administration and examining, as
appropriate;
 - Attend departmental and faculty meetings, as appropriate;
 - Participate in marketing and recruitment activities for the Department’s
degree programmes, as appropriate;
 - Assist in meeting the requirements for the monitoring of teaching and
learning, as prescribed by the University and external bodies;
 - Help with other tasks relating to the running of the subject, as they
arise;
 - Undertake other administrative tasks as requested by the Head of Department
or nominee.

Professional development: 
 - Engage in professional development activities for academic career
enhancement purposes.

In addition to the above, undertake such duties as may reasonably be requested
and that are commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.
