Description:

PhD position in Linguistics/Automatic Speech Recognition

Your Role: 
The doctoral candidate will be a member of the Department of Humanities /
Institute for Luxembourgish language and literatures. S/he will work under the
supervision of Prof. Dr Peter Gilles.

Your tasks: 
 - Research in the field of Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) for the
low-resource language Luxembourgish
 - Develop concepts and experiments for the use of ASR tools in linguistic
research (e.g. for linguistic fieldwork, forced alignment,
query-by-keyword/query-by-example)
 - Communicating with external partners
 - Administrative responsibilities within the project and the research group
 - Publications (in peer-reviewed journals and at scientific conferences)
 - Enrolment in the Doctoral School in Humanities and Social Sciences

What we expect from you: 
 - Excellent Masters degree (or equivalent) in Linguistics, Computational
Linguistics or a related field
 - Good knowledge of and interest in data sciences and machine learning
methods (Deep Learning, ASR, NLP, transformers, Kaldi, wav2vec2, Python)
 - Involvement into teaching to a limited extent
 - Language skills: English. Competencies in Luxembourgish and/or German are
considered an advantage
 - Last but not least, enthusiasm about, high commitment for, and enjoyment in
research and science

Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract 36 months (extendable up to 48 months if
