Description:

The Department of English Linguistics/EAS English and American Studies  at the
University of Braunschweig –  (Germany) invites applications for a PhD
position in English linguistics (f/m/d) (German pay scale TV-L E13, 65%)
starting July 1, 2022.

The position is for three years, subject to a successful evaluation of
progress at the end of the first year. The salary ranges from 33k to 35k per
year de-pending on the applicant's experience. The successful applicant will
work with Dr. Katie Von Holzen and Prof. Dr. Holger Hopp on the DFG funded
project “Initial foreign speech segmentation in school-aged children”.

We are looking for candidates with backgrounds and interests in
psycholinguistics and/or bi-/multilingualism, ideally with an interest in
phonology. The responsibilities of this position include carrying out the
planned experiments of the DFG project and developing a related PhD project in
the areas of language processing and/or interfaces between language processing
and foreign language learning in classroom settings.

The department has experimental facilities including remote eye-trackers
suitable for reading and Visual World studies and reaction-time computers.

Applicants should: 
 - have an excellent MA degree or equivalent in a subject related to (English)
linguistics and/or the PhD project 
 - have advanced English and good German skills 
 - demonstrable research experience and team working skills
Knowledge of statistics and experience in lab-based and/or empirical research
are desirable.

 - a letter of motivation
 - contact information for two academic letters of reference (one from the
supervisor of the BA/MA thesis or equivalent)
 - a summary of the MA thesis or equivalent 
 - optionally: a research proposal for the dissertation project in the
relevant areas including a time schedule (five A4 ages max.).
