Required Language(s): Italian (ita)

Description:

We currently have an opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research to join the
Project 'Navigating ambiguity when reading from multiple sources' at
University of Florence, Italy.

Functioning democracies rely on well-informed citizens, but the ineffective
processing of digital information is leading to an increase of misinformation.
As a result, if people are pervasively misinformed, they will make decisions
that can have adverse consequences, and societal decisions will be suboptimal.
The overarching purpose of the project is to increase our understanding about
how readers process ambiguous texts and provide educational institutions with
effective guidelines to help young adults become reflective citizens. In order
to realize this vision, this project has the following aims:
 - to develop an evidence-based textual ambiguity index;
 - to demonstrate that ambiguous texts are associated to poorer reading
comprehension performances;
 - to investigate the impact of textual ambiguity when readers are engaged
with multiple sources about a controversial issue.

The Post-Doc we are seeking must have a PhD degree or equivalent in
Psycholinguistics, Computational Linguistics, Psychology or some other
relevant discipline related to the project.

One of the purpose of this position is to provide support for building and
utilizing the computational tools and resources for analyzing text corpora.
We require:
 - Experience with psycholinguistic research
 - Solid background in statistics
 - Demonstrated skills in common programming languages
 - Ambitions for high-quality research within the project

Knowledge of Italian and experience with eye-tracking research and
applications will be a plus.

This is a full-time, fixed term position for 18 months. Annual gross salary is
€24,000. The competition will be carried out by an evaluation of titles and
examination, by means of an on-line interview.

Deadline for applications is 03/21/2022.
