University or Organization: University of North Texas
Department: Department of Linguistics
Job Location: Texas, USA
Web Address: https://linguistics.unt.edu/
Job Title: Asst/Assoc Professor of Computational Linguistics
Job Rank: Asst/Assoc Professor

Specialty Areas: Computational Linguistics; General Linguistics

Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of North Texas seeks to fill a
tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, with a
primary specialization in computational linguistics. We seek candidates who
are active researchers in a core linguistics area that complements existing
departmental strengths. In addition, the successful candidate will play an
important role in the continued development of our programs in computational
linguistics at the graduate and undergraduate levels that prepare students for
careers in industry as well as academia.

A PhD in Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Computer Science (with a
focus in language applications), or a related field with a strong background
in computational linguistics/natural language processing is required. In
addition, we seek candidates with an active research agenda, a promising
trajectory for grant acquisition, and a strong commitment to innovative
teaching.

The Department of Linguistics is one of three departments in UNT’s College of
Information. This positions faculty in a collaborative environment for
developing cutting-edge curricula and innovative research opportunities that
incorporate research on language structure and use with language technology,
text mining, computational and quantitative methods in linguistics, and
natural language processing. We seek candidates who will contribute to the
existing creative and collaborative environment in the department, as well as
pursue interdisciplinary collaborations (both new and existing) with other
computational research groups on campus, in particular in Computer Science,
Humanities and Social Sciences, and Information Science.

The teaching load for tenure-track positions is typically four courses per
year, graduate and undergraduate levels. Additional responsibilities include
advising/supervision of students and participation in the academic life of the
department.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the
search is closed.
