Description:

There is a PhD assistantship available for 4 years beginning in the Fall of
202 in the PhD program of the Department of Educational Theory and Practice at
the State University of New York, Albany. The assistantship requires the
successful candidate to work on the Albany Corpus of Intercultural
Communication with Distinguished Professor Istvan Kecskes
(https://www.albany.edu/faculty/ikecskes/; István Kecskés (linguist) -
Wikipedia) and assist with the journal “Intercultural Pragmatics”. The
assistantship includes 20 flexible hours per week and pays $19,000 per
academic year plus it carries 9 credits of tuition per semester.

Applicants need to have a master's degree or equivalent in linguistics,
English, pragmatics, second language education, communication, TESOL or a
closely related field. The preparation of a PhD-dissertation on a topic
related to pragmatics, intercultural communication, second language
acquisition or bi- and multilingualism is expected. Because of the nature of
the assistantship the successful candidate must be a native-speaker of English
or have near native language proficiency.
