Description:

The Hanyang Institute for Phonetics and Cognitive Sciences of Language (HIPCS)
at Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea, depending on final budgetary
approval by the university, is offering one or two research assistant
professor position(s) or postdoctoral researcher position(s) in the fields of
phonetics and laboratory phonology with special emphasis on the Korean
language.

Qualifications:
Requirements for candidates include:
 - a PhD degree in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Psycholinguistics or a
related field at the time of employment (The applicant’s PhD completion date
must be no earlier than January 1, 2015).  
 - a (near) native command of Korean

Conditions of Employment:
 - One-year term position (renewable based on the previous year’s
performance), starting before August 1, 2022. 
 - The annual salary is around 40,000,000 KRW (including insurance and
pension; the decision of salary depends on the experience of the applicant).
 - 4 major medical/social insurances are included (half of the expenses is
covered by the university and the other half by the applicant).   

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate is expected to fulfil the following under the
supervision of HIPCS Director (currently Prof. Taehong Cho): 
 - to work full time at HIPCS  
 - to carry out HIPCS research projects funded by the National Research
Foundation of Korea and other research-related tasks requested by HIPCS
Director
 - to participate in constructing the database of speech sound and
articulation, learning how to use project-related experimental equipment 
 - to organize the HIPCS conference and participate in joint projects
 - to publish at least one paper biannually in a recognized journal (either as
a single author or as a co-author)

Others:
 - PhD holders and PhD candidates whose research areas are in experimental
phonetics and laboratory phonology are particularly welcome, but those in the
following areas are also welcome to apply: psycholinguistics, Korean or other
foreign language/linguistics/education, or applied linguistics.
 - A PhD holder in other research fields can also apply if they are willing to
learn phonetics and carry out research projects.
 - Preference will be given to applicants with excellent publication record
and/or experience with statistics or programming.
 - Teaching opportunity may be given on the second year, if deemed necessary
and approved by the HIPCS Director.
 - The described job positions are subject to change depending on the final
approval by the university, and no one may be hired if the recruitment
committee finds an adequate candidate.  
 - Final short-listed candidates will be asked to submit additional documents
necessary for the recruitment process. 
 - Employment will be rescinded automatically if submitted documents turn out
to include any false information even after the candidate starts to work.
