Description:

The Department of Linguistics in the Faculty of Arts at the University of
Manitoba invites applications for a one-year Instructor I, II, or Senior
Instructor position beginning on or after July 1, 2022. The candidate should
be prepared to teach a range of introductory linguistics courses and at least
one upper-level syntax course. Teaching duties include 7 half courses (21
credit hours) during the 2022-23 academic year. The position has an 80%
teaching and 20% service workload distribution and service duties will include
committee work. PhD is preferred but candidates with ABD status may be
considered. Candidates should be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching in
linguistics. The starting salary will reflect the qualifications and
experience of the chosen candidate.

The Department of Linguistics is situated within a linguistically diverse
geographical area and maintains a strong commitment to core areas of
linguistic teaching and research including syntax, phonology,
sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics and cognitive linguistic theory. The
department offers undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degrees (a 3-year General
degree, a 4-year Advanced Major degree, and an Honours degree) and has an
active MA and PhD program. The department has long been a leading centre for
the linguistic study of Indigenous languages of Canada, with particular
attention to the Algonquian language family. Applicants with an interest in
Indigenous languages would be particularly welcome. More information can be
