Description:

The Department of Linguistics, in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at
the University of Connecticut, Storrs, is accepting applications for a
Postdoctoral Research Associate with an anticipated start date of August 23,
2022. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal
for a second year. The positions carries a teaching load of one course per
year. We seek an exceptionally talented scholar in sign linguistics, with a
focus on experimental and/or theoretical approaches and interests in language
acquisition.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
The post-doctoral research associate will be an active member of UConn's Sign
Linguistics and Language Acquisition Laboratory, and will: 
 - Conduct research in connection with current projects of the lab, including
the Family ASL project and the project on Bimodal Bilingualism
 - Conduct research in areas of the scholar's interests
 - Participate in UConn's sign linguistics research community
 - Teach one course per year as determined by the needs of the Linguistics
Department

Minimum Qualifications: 
 - Completed requirements for a Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Linguistics
or a related field by the start date of employment
 - Active research interests in sign linguistics
 - Evidence of a strong research/publication trajectory
 - Ability to teach effectively at the graduate and undergraduate level

Preferred Qualifications: 
 - Evidence of excellence in research
 - A strong commitment to research in the areas of sign language acquisition
and/or bimodal bilingualism
 - Communicative fluency in ASL or another natural sign language
 - Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching and advising
 - Ability to contribute through research, teaching, and/or public engagement
to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience

Appointment Terms: 
This is a 12-month, annually renewable position, dependent on performance and
funding. The successful candidate's primary academic appointment will be in
the Department of Linguistics at the Storrs campus

Terms and Conditions of Employment: 
Employment at the University of Connecticut is contingent upon the successful
candidate's compliance with the University's Mandatory Workforce COVID-19

at UConn, unless an exemption or deferral has been approved.

Employment of the successful candidate is contingent upon the successful
