Subject: Intensive Immersive Language Courses sought for a Funded Research Project

Hello!

We are looking for intensive immersive language courses for collaborative
research within an interdisciplinary grant-funded project.

The project examines how the patterns of peer communication among participants
in second language courses influence linguistic gains. Following research from
student cohorts in Germany and Poland (findings published in or in press with
The Modern Language Journal, Language Teaching, and Routledge), we are now
expanding to new contexts.

We are looking for persons with access to intensive language courses taking
place in a second (i.e., immersive) language setting who could assist in data
collection. Relevant courses may thus be ones aimed at Study Abroad and
international exchange sojourners, courses organised by private language
schools in countries speaking the target language, vacation courses of
language and culture, honours sojourns abroad (with or without formal
classes), or language revitalisation programs. The data to be collected from
the students would involve: i) socio-biographical and social interaction data
collected by means of a ready, specially developed questionnaire (available in
different languages), and ii) an objective measure of the participants’
language progress (for instance in the form of diagnostic/placement and final
assessment scores).

We welcome declarations of collaboration interest from any part of the world.
Modest remuneration is available for assistance in data collection. As a
possible deliverable joint publications may be envisaged in the case of
collaborators’ active involvement also at the write-up stage.

The study is being carried out under a research grant from the National
Science Center of Poland and has relevant eligibility and research ethics
(IRB) clearance. Basic information about the project can be found at
https://peerlang.ils.uw.edu.pl

If you are interested in collaboration, please contact the PI, Dr Michał B.
Paradowski at michal.paradowski at uw.edu.pl. Also, please feel free to share
this information with anyone who might be interested.

Best wishes and regards,

Michał B. Paradowski
