Qualifications: Minimum requirements are a Ph.D. in Linguistics.

Duties:
The Department of Comparative Literature and Languages at the University of
California, Riverside seeks to fill a position of Assistant Professor of
Teaching in Linguistics beginning in fall, 2023. We are looking for candidates
with (1) demonstrated excellence in teaching introductory survey courses in
linguistics as well as upper-division courses in core subfields such as
syntax, morphology, phonology, and semantics and (2) a research specialization
in second-language acquisition or heritage language acquisition. Interest and
aptitude in teaching computational linguistics would also be welcome.
Following the first year of service this faculty member will, on an ongoing
basis, take on an administrative role in the department to support
non-English-language pedagogy and infrastructure development. The ideal
candidate will have experience in L2 pedagogy and will support and train
graduate students in the department’s various linguistic fields of study. This
faculty member will be a core member of our Linguistics faculty and will
collaborate in the supervision of the major, the advising of undergraduate and
graduate students, and the development of the program in the short and long
terms.
In UCR’s Professor of Teaching ranks, a person is expected not only to
introduce intellectual fields to students but to foster student independence
and reasoning abilities, to arouse curiosity and to encourage high standards.
For advancement beyond Assistant Professor of Teaching, a person must show
evidence of excellence in teaching, intellectual leadership through
publications, creative accomplishments or other professional activity, and
also demonstrate service to the department, the university, and/or the public.

Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is
through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3
years, each of which includes substantial peer input.

records of teaching evaluations (written and numeric), and three letters of
reference. We will begin to review applications on November 25, 2022.
