Description:

Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise.
Shares responsibility for committee and program assignments including
administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

This appointment will be at the Graduate Center. The Professor will teach,
train, and mentor graduate MA and PhD students while conducting research and
sharing their knowledge.

The appointment will begin on August 25, 2023.

Duties include research, teaching, and service to the University. The
applicant is expected to have a strong record of teaching and scholarly
achievement and to maintain a vibrant computational-experimental research
program. Teaching expectation is 2 courses per semester. The remainder of the
faculty member's load will be filled with advising and service.

The new hire will assist in teaching computational linguistics courses (i.e.,
Introduction to Computational Linguistics Methods I & II, Language Technology,
Corpus Analysis, and Advanced Natural Language Processing) and courses in
experimental linguistics or psycholinguistics. The new hire would also help
with MA/PhD advising, and mentorship of students in the computational
linguistics track and other students interested in experimental approaches.

Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent.  Also required are the
ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and
ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Candidates
should hold a PhD in linguistics with a specialization in computational
linguistics and either psycholinguistics or experimental linguistics broadly
defined (experimental sociolinguistics, experimental phonology, experimental
syntax, etc.). We encourage members from historically underrepresented

experience in teaching and in mentoring student research in computational,
psycholinguistics, or experimental linguistics. Experience directing an active
research lab and mentoring students’ work is strongly desired.
