Given recent work on the syntactic processes underlying crosslinguistic
expression of Formal/Colloquial Distinctions, Honorifics, Allocutives,
Vocatives, and Solidarity Clitics in languages such as Basque, Tamil,
Japanese, Korean, Galician, Hindi-Urdu, Italo-Romance, and Magahi, we welcome
500-word abstracts for presentations in this workshop, to be held at
University College London on Friday and Saturday, 20-21 January 2023. This is
planned to be an in-person workshop, organized as part of the UCL-IIT Delhi

and Yasutada Sudo (UCL).

Invited Speakers:
Gurmeet Kaur, Göttingen University
Roberta D’Alessandro, Utrecht University
Rajesh Bhatt, University of Massachusetts, Amherst

Topics of interest include: the division of labor between syntax, morphology,
and semantics in the expression of these phenomena; mismatches between nominal
form and verbal morphosyntax; the employment of mechanisms such as syntactic
Agree and Speech Act Heads for the clausal mapping of addressee and honorific
phenomena, and the modeling of micro- and macro-variation in these domains.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is 10 Dec 2022 at 11:59pm Greenwich
Mean Time.

Abstracts should be submitted by email to: champ.ucl2023 at gmail.com
