Description:

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is a government-funded tertiary
institution in Hong Kong.  It offers programmes at various levels including
Doctorate, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees.  It has a full-time academic staff
strength of around 1,200.  The total annual consolidated expenditure budget of
the University is in excess of HK$7.6 billion.  

Teaching Fellow in English Language and (Applied) Linguistics / Language and
Professional Communication (Ref. 220929017)

The Department of English and Communication has a long history of conducting
cutting-edge research in language and communication and producing high quality
graduates for the professional workplace. More information can be obtained

The appointee will be required to:
 - teach English and applied linguistics subjects in the above-mentioned
areas. The successful candidate should also be able to teach some of the
following subjects: Analysis of English Pronunciation; Grammar and Meaning;
English Lexis and Semantics; Testing and Assessment; Language Development and
Use; English as a Global Lingua Franca, Technical and Web-Based Writing,
English for Management; Introduction to English-Speaking Cultures; Drama for
Language Learning; Language Arts for Creative Community Projects or any other
subject(s) on the theory of linguistics, applied linguistics and
communication; 
 - serve as a member on programme teaching teams, and assist in the
development / updating of teaching materials; 
 - play a leadership role in one of the Department’s programmes; 
 - participate in and contribute to other academic and administrative
activities in the Department as and when required; and 
 - perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her
delegates.

Applicants should have:
 - at least a master’s degree and professional qualification in a relevant
discipline; a PhD degree in a relevant discipline will be an advantage; 
 - not less than three years of post-qualification teaching experience at
tertiary level; 
 - an excellent command of spoken and written English; and 
 - good subject knowledge, skills and competence in English language studies
and/or applied linguistics.  
Possession of the ability to teach one of the Departments’ foreign language
subjects (i.e. French, German, Spanish) will be an advantage.  

Conditions of Service: 
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial
appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement
thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
