Description:

We currently support a Ph.D. project affiliated with the Research Training
Group (RTG) “Dynamics and stability of linguistic representations”. The RTG is
a structured program for Ph.D.-students and young researchers.

Your tasks:
The scientific goal of the group is to study the mental bases of linguistic
units, their usage, acquisition, development, and change. To this end, several
methodological perspectives are taken, e.g., from Psycho or Neurolinguistics,
Dialectology, Clinical Linguistics, Historical Linguistics and Pragmatics. In
this environment, the Doctoral Researcher is expected to follow a research
agenda in collaboration with a Junior Research Group leader, following either
a psycho-, neuro- or sociolinguistic perspective.

The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of
a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample
opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the
completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.

Your qualification:
We are looking for a highly motivated student with a degree (diploma, MA or
equivalent) in a relevant discipline (Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Psycho-
or Neurolinguistics, Psychology, Cognitive Science) or related fields. The
successful candidate will have experience with empirical and/or experimental
research in the aforementioned disciplines and will have a good command of
English and German (written and spoken). Furthermore, it is desired that the
candidate shows familiarity with the analysis of quantitative data (e.g.,
knowledge of linear models in the frequentist or Bayesian framework) and/or
has an adequate background in programing with R, MatLab or Python (or a
similar programing language). A further asset is previous experience with
Electroencephalography (EEG) studies. We expect the candidate to enjoy working
in a team, to have great organizational skills, and to be open for acquiring
new skills and expertises.

Disposition to own scientific qualification (e.g., a doctorate project in the
area of experimental linguistics) is expected. We offer a vivid and vibrant
international research environment within the RTG and beyond. The successful
candidate will be able to take part in the qualification program of the RTG.
This includes access to scientific colloquia, workshops, and mentoring
programs.

We actively support the professional development of junior researchers, e.g.
by the offers of Marburg Research Academy (MARA), the International Office,
the Higher Education Didactics Office and the Human Resources Development
Office.

We support women and strongly encourage them to apply. In areas where women
are underrepresented, female applicants will be preferred in case of equal
qualifications. Applicants with children are welcome – Philipps-University is
certified as a family-friendly university. Sharing a full-time position (§ 8
Abs. 2 S. 1 HGlG) as well as a reduction of working time is possible.
Applicants with a disability as described in SGB IX (§ 2 Abs. 2, 3) will be
preferred in case of equal qualifications.
