Special issue on Language Documentation  in Comparative Turkic Linguistics
Editors: Eva Á. Csató and Birsel Karakoç, Uppsala University

Colleagues are invited to submit an article for publication in a special issue
on Language Documentation in Comparative Turkic linguistics edited by Eva Á.
Csató and Birsel Karakoç Uppsala University. The aim is to present case
studies of glossed texts in Turkic varieties, and to advocate for reasonable
standardization of text representations, based on the international scholarly
tradition in comparative Turkic linguistics.

Submissions should include a previously unpublished text (about 1000 words)
with audio recording in a Turkic variety. Varieties of both endangered and
non-endangered languages will be considered. Texts should be presented in
Turcological transcription with interlinear morphological glosses and free
translation as in Johanson 2021 and Johanson & Csató 2022 and Johanson in
print. See also Recommended transcriptions and notations in the journal Turkic
Languages.

In addition to the text, authors are kindly asked to provide:

- a short descriptive overview of the specific characteristics of the variety,
illustrated mainly by examples from the text;
- information about the speaker(s). their community, and the circumstances of
the recording;
- a short bibliography, including the most important publications on the
variety; and
- a very short biographical statement about the author(s).

Articles should be written in English and not exceed 8000 words.

This special issue is planned for publication in July 2023.The deadline for
submitting contributions is the middle of February 2023. Authors interested in
contributing should contact the editors by November 30.2022 via email.

The volume will include introductory comments by Peter Austin and Lars
Johanson.
