Description:

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of World Languages and
Literatures invites applications for a full-time, nine-month appointment,
tenure-track Assistant Professor position of Spanish with specialization in
linguistics or applied linguistics.  We are seeking candidates with a strong
background in language pedagogy, genuine interest in languages for specific
purposes, and a commitment to pursue a high-quality scholarly activity in
their field of specialty. The successful candidate will be instrumental in
helping to grow and expand the Applied Professional Spanish Major. The
position requires (1) teaching undergraduate Spanish language courses at all
levels and a variety of upper-level courses including Spanish for Specific
Purposes courses, as well as introductory culture courses and advanced
seminars in English as part of the Major in World Languages; and teaching
graduate-level courses as part of the Master of Arts in Education in Spanish
(School of Education); (2) conducting and publishing research commensurate
with a research-intensive university; and (3) engaging in departmental,
college and university service. Candidates who incorporate technology and
innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching the language and
culture will be strongly considered. 

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) treasures the rich diversity of our

The successful candidate must have native or near-native fluency in Spanish
and English and must have a Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment (August
15, 2023), although ABDs may be considered at the time of offer. We also
strongly encourage applications from individuals who will contribute to
diversity and equity in higher education.
