Meeting Description:

The next workshop of the International Network of Address Research (INAR) is
set to take place at Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, on 5–7
July 2023. This will be the seventh edition of the workshop, which has
previously taken place in Berlin (2013), Hildesheim (2014), College Station
(2015), Helsinki (2017), Sheffield (2019), and Bergamo (2021). The aim of this
international workshop is to bring together scholars interested in address
research and related phenomena. To this end, INAR also circulates a mailing
list to which anyone interested in the topic is welcome to subscribe (see
inarweb.wordpress.com for more information).

INAR 7 welcomes discussion on all forms of language and communicative
practices associated with situations in which interlocutors are addressed.
Relevant issues include, but are not limited to, pronominal address forms,
imperative verb forms, honorifics, kinship terms, titles, and terms of
endearment and abuse. Related phenomena such as salutations, address forms
used in generic meaning, and address-derived discourse markers constitute
wider fields of interest. Contrastive studies which compare address terms in
two or more languages are given special attention, and in particular studies
which focus on the perception and processing of address terms.

This year's organizing committee consists of Helen de Hoop, Gert-Jan
Schoenmakers, and Elsa Opheij.

Call for Papers:

We invite abstracts on all aspects of address and address research for
20-minute oral presentations followed by 10 minutes of discussion. There will
be no parallel sessions. Studies from various fields will be considered,
including syntax, semantics, pragmatics, historical linguistics, politeness
studies, sociolinguistics, language contact, communication, and translation.
Abstracts should be written in Times New Roman 12pt font with a line spacing
of 1.15 and should not exceed one A4 page with a 2.5 cm margin on all sides. A
second page can be used for references and figures. Anonymized abstracts
should be submitted via the conference website (https://www.ru.nl/cls/INAR7)
in standard Word or PDF format.

Submissions can be uploaded until 26 February 2023; notifications of
acceptance will be sent in the first week of April. Information about hotel
