Description:

Haverford College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty
position in its African and Africana Studies program to start July 1, 2023 at
the Assistant or early Associate level. The successful candidate is expected
to have completed requirements for the PhD by September 1, 2023.

The College seeks to hire a scholar with a strong and imaginative research and
teaching program centering African America, the African diaspora and the Black
World. The College will consider candidates from any disciplinary background,
and interdisciplinary and transnational approaches are most welcome.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach core courses in the African
and Africana Studies program, including an introductory class, as well as
offering more advanced seminar-style classes in their subfields of expertise,
and supervising student research. The scholar’s teaching and service at the
college will help anchor and carry forward a distinguished program, started in
1983 in response to student protests.

Applicants should submit the following via the application link below: 
 - Cover letter;
 - Curriculum Vitae;
 - Teaching Statement (two pages maximum) that addresses teaching philosophy
and methods, lists examples of possible courses, and speaks to how the
applicant’s teaching and mentoring supports equity and inclusion within a
diverse program and student body;
 - Writing sample of approximately 25-30 pages;
 - Three confidential recommendation letters
The application deadline is October 17, 2022.

Special Requirements: All faculty and staff (including contract workers) who
are employed or engaged by Haverford College, must be fully vaccinated against
