Description:

Applications are invited for the PhD program in the Department of
Psychological Sciences at Kent State University. Applicants with interests in
psycholinguistics, SLA/bilingualism, implicit/explicit learning,
declarative/procedural memory, or computational approaches to language are
encouraged to apply to work with Dr. Phillip Hamrick in the Language and
Cognition Research Laboratory (lcrlab.weebly.com), but are welcome to work
across our highly collaborative faculty.

Every graduate student is guaranteed five years of funding (tuition +
stipend), including summers. The cost of living near Kent, OH is very
reasonable (https://www.bestplaces.net/cost_of_living/city/ohio/kent).

Additionally, our students are highly competitive for university-wide
fellowships (https://www.kent.edu/graduatestudies/awards) in their final year
of graduate training, which allows them to focus on writing their
dissertations.

What makes the Cognitive area unique at KSU?
 - Faculty and students are highly collaborative within the Cognitive area and
across the department and university.
 - Additional Cognitive faculty members include: John Dunlosky, William
Merriman, and Maria Zaragoza.
 - Developmental psychology is a cross-cutting theme uniting many research
programs in the department.
 - We have an emphasis on cognition and education (https://www.kent.edu/sole).
 - Graduate students receive training in the teaching of psychology prior to
their first time serving as instructor of record.
 - Many Cognitive faculty contribute to the department’s Quantitative
psychology concentration, which prepares our students well for future
employment.
 - The Applied Psychology Center offers pilot funds for research
