Call for Papers:

[LA VERSION FRANÇAISE SUIT | FRENCH VERSION FOLLOWS]

The Canadian Journal of Linguistics (CJL) invites submissions to a
special issue on “More than modal? Intersubjective and discursive
dimensions of (post)modal expressions”, guest edited by Rea Peltola
and Adeline Patard (University of Caen-Normandy).

The contributions of the present volume explore the semantic and
discursive dynamics on this interface between modal, postmodal and
more-than-modal. They deal with different types of discourse functions
where modal elements move beyond their propositional scope, e. g.
concession, (negative) affectivity, polyphony, narratives. In addition
to modal verbs and moods, the studied items may include non-verbal
elements and multiword units. We especially call for contributions
with a focus on non-European languages.

Potential contributors are invited to submit a 250-word abstract in
English or French to rea.peltola at unicaen.fr by May 15, 2023.
Contributors of accepted abstracts will be invited to submit a full
paper, which will undergo the standard peer review process.

La Revue canadienne de linguistique (RCL) lance un appel à
contributions pour un numéro spécial intitulé "Plus que modal ?
Dimensions intersubjectives et discursives des expressions
(post)modales", dirigé par Rea Peltola et Adeline Patard (Université
de Caen-Normandie).

Les contributions de ce volume explorent les dynamiques sémantiques et
discursives sur l’interface entre modal, postmodal et plus-que-modal.
Elles traitent de différents types de fonctions discursives où les
éléments modaux vont au-delà d’une portée propositionnelle, par
exemple la concession, l'affectivité (négative), la polyphonie, la
narrativité. Outre les verbes modaux et les modes, les objets étudiés
peuvent inclure des éléments non verbaux et des unités à plusieurs
mots. Nous appelons tout particulièrement à des contributions axées
sur les langues non européennes.

Les personnes intéressées à contribuer sont invitées à soumettre un
résumé de 250 mots en anglais ou en français par mail à
rea.peltola at unicaen.fr, et ce, avant le 15 mai 2023. Les personnes
dont les résumés sont acceptés seront invitées à soumettre un article
intégral, pour un processus standard d'évaluation par les pairs.
