The Linguistics Program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the School of
Education at the State University of New York at Oswego invite
applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position
in Linguistics.

Description of Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will have experience teaching at the undergraduate
level. They are responsible for teaching core courses in Linguistics
(phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics) at the
undergraduate and/or graduate level. In addition to teaching
Linguistics courses offered through the Linguistics Program, the
candidate is expected to teach at least one education course per
semester in our TESOL Program. As this candidate will contribute
courses to both the Linguistics Program and the TESOL Program, they
must have relevant teaching experiences in these fields in order to
model excellent teaching with all of our students, especially our
TESOL majors.

Though SUNY Oswego’s primary mission is teaching, the ideal candidate
must demonstrate a strong commitment to research and an active
research program. In addition, the candidate will need to have the
ability to teach Linguistics majors and TESOL majors how to write in
Linguistics, and understand those aspects of educational linguistics
that are relevant to TESOL and students learning English as a new
language (especially in kindergarten-12th grade settings). As the
tenure home for this position is located in the School of Education,
the candidate is expected to understand and embrace the School’s

Required Qualifications:
 - PhD in Linguistic or Applied Linguistics with demonstrated ability
and relevant experience to teach both linguistics and TESOL courses.

Preferred Qualifications:
 - Significant graduate training, such as master's degree, in TESOL or
applied linguistics with TESOL concentration.
 - Familiarity with TESOL as it relates to students learning English
as a new language, especially in K-12 settings. New York State
teaching certification.
