Description:

The University of Innsbruck invites applications for the position of
University Professor of English Linguistics at the Department of
English at the Faculty of Philology and Cultural Studies.

Responsibilities:
 - The responsibilities of the successful candidate will include
representing the full range of English Linguistics in research and
teaching. This comprises a synchronic as well as diachronic approach
to English as a language system.
 - There should be one research focus in the field of pragmatics and
one in varieties of English. Both synchronic and diachronic
perspectives should be represented.
 - The successful candidate is expected to attract third-party
funding.
 - Close cooperation with other areas of research and teaching at the
Department of English (Applied Language Studies, Cultural Studies, and
Literary Studies), as well as with the Department of American Studies
and the faculty’s and university’s interdisciplinary research networks
and research centres is expected.
 - In teaching, the successful candidate is expected to cover the
subject area of English linguistics in its entirety and on all levels
of qualification, including the following curricula: Bachelor
Anglistik/Amerikanistik, Master Anglistik/Amerikanistik, Teacher
Training (BA and MA) as well as Doctoral Studies. These
responsibilities include supervising bachelor theses, master theses,
and doctoral theses.
 - Other basic duties include academic administration and
self-governance as well as the support of early-career scholars.

Essential requirements:
 - pertinent PhD degree acquired in Austria or abroad;
 - pertinent habilitation or comparable qualification (e.g. additional
monograph in the field);
 - research in both synchronic and diachronic English linguistics,
with one research area in the field of pragmatics and one in varieties
of English. This research should be documented by relevant
publications with internationally renowned publishers and
contributions to international peer-reviewed journals as well as, if
applicable, by research and teaching projects;
 - excellent knowledge of English (level C2); good knowledge of German
(at least B2; willingness to acquire level C1 in German within five
years);
 - international research profile, documented by visible networking in
international research associations and internationally recognised
research activities;
 - experience in acquiring and managing third-party funding;
 - excellent didactic skills and experience in different teaching
formats as well as in teaching on different degree levels;
 - experience in the supervision of final theses (e.g. BA theses, MA
theses, PhD theses);
 - excellent social and leadership skills as well as the willingness
to participate in academic administration and self-governance;
 - experience in research and/or teaching in Anglophone contexts.

Desirable Requirements:
 - additional documented research interest in lexicology and text
linguistics;
 - competence in corpus-linguistic methods;
 - experience in interdisciplinary research;
 - innovative didactic approaches;
 - willingness to participate in ongoing research activities at the
University of Innsbruck;
 - willingness to establish international cooperations and to organize
international symposia, workshops and conferences.
