We are very excited to share a new tool with the community.
Multi-Feature Tagger of English (MFTE) is the Python version of the
MFTE Perl (Le Foll 2021). This improved and extended Python version
includes semantic tags from Biber (2006) and Biber et al. (1999), as
well as additional tags, e.g., separate tags for third person singular
male and female pronouns. This tagger first uses the Python NLP
library stanza for grammatical part-of-speech tagging before applying
rule-based regular expressions to tag for a range of more complex
lexico-grammatical and semantic features typically used in
multidimensional analysis (MDA; cf. Biber 1984; 1988).

The software is available as a free and opensource Python command line
and simple GUI. Current version is a pre-alpha release with bugs and
errors expected (& incomplete documentation). If you are interested in
doing MDA studies, you may want to give it a try. Please feel free to
report any errors or other glitches using the Issues tab on the Github
repo. The software is available on the link below along with
instructions how to install and use it.
