Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Chicago seeks a
part-time Lecturer to teach Modern Greek during the Autumn, Winter,
and Spring Quarters of the 2023-24 academic year.

Depending on the curricular needs of the department, the successful
candidate may teach up to three courses in the academic year in Modern
Greek language and up to one additional course in a related topic.
Responsibilities will include preparing and teaching language courses
using a highly interactive communicative approach, holding regularly
scheduled office hours, and preparing and grading assignments and
testing materials.

In 2023-24, the per-course salary is $7,538. This position is not
benefits eligible.

Qualifications:

Candidates must hold a master’s degree or equivalent in Modern Greek,
linguistics, language pedagogy, education, or a related field, have
sufficient language proficiency to teach Modern Greek at the
University level, and at least one year of experience teaching at the
college or post-secondary level.

Applicants must upload:

 - A current curriculum vitae;
 - A cover letter that addresses relevant professional and teaching
experience and discusses the applicant’s approaches to pedagogy;
 - A maximum one-page proposal for an introductory course on Modern
Greek literature, history, or culture; or on linguistics
 - The names and contact information of three references whose
recommendation letters may be solicited

Optional materials include:

 - Relevant course evaluations may be uploaded if available.
 - Prior syllabi of modern Greek language courses taught if available.
