Subject: English; General Linguistics: Predoctoral/part-time researcher (65%), Universität Tübingen

University or Organization: University of Tübingen
Department: Department of Linguistics
Job Location: Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Web Address: https://uni-tuebingen.de/en/213700.
Job Title: Predoctoral/part-time researcher (65%)
Job Rank: Researcher

Specialty Areas: General Linguistics

Required Language(s): English (eng)

Description:

The following position is available in the Department of Linguistics
of the Faculty of Humanities beginning April 1st, 2024 or soon after.

The position will be filled for a period of three years at 65% of full
time in the LMBayes project in cooperation with the Leibniz-Center
General Linguistics (ZAS, Berlin) and the Weierstrass Institute for
Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS, Berlin). The position is
well-suited for pre-doctoral researchers intending to complete their
doctorate but other researchers interested in a part-time position are
also invited to apply.

Requirements for employment are a completed M.A. or equivalent in a
relevant field (linguistics, cognitive science, computational
linguistics, or similar), near native-level of spoken and written
English, willingness to work in a team and at least basic programming
skills. Desired assets are familiarity with statistical modeling, in
particular Bayesian data analysis, and/or probabilistic cognitive
modeling, as well as familiarity with experimental methods (e.g.,
planning, implementing and executing behavioral experiments), and the
ability to engage with mathematical theory (stochastics and numerics)
in an interdisciplinary team. The position is supposed to work in the
LMBayes project on a subproject focusing on how information about
cause-effect structures is communicated and inferred.

The position offers a cohesive interdisciplinary research environment
at the University of Tübingen and a dedicated project team from
Linguistics and Mathematics. We offer the opportunity to acquire
cutting-edge research methods, such as probabilistic modeling,
experimental methods, and modern techniques of data analysis and
machine learning.

The university seeks to raise the number of women in research and
teaching and therefore urges qualified women academics to apply for
these positions. Equally qualified applicants with disabilities will
be given preference in the hiring process. The university is committed
to equal opportunities and diversity. It therefore takes individual
situations into account and asks for relevant information. The
employment will be handled by the central administration of the
University of Tübingen.

Please send your application together with the required documents
(motivation letter summarizing your research experience and interests,
extensive CV, list of publications, contact details of three potential
referees) by January 3rd, 2024 to Prof. Dr. Michael Franke, Keplerstr.
