Meeting Description:

METU-WCCR is a 2-day workshop where researchers give 20-minute presentations,
receiving and giving feedback to other researchers who work on similar
research topics.

2nd Call for Papers:

METU Workshop on Conditional and Causal Reasoning (METU-WCCR)

Due to requests from our colleagues finding it difficult to travel overseas,
we have decided to include a video presentation option only for the presenters
joining us from abroad. Hence, we have extended the abstract submission
deadline for METU Workshop on Conditional and Causal Reasoning (METU-WCCR)
hosted by Middle East Technical University Language and Cognitive Development
Laboratory (METU LCDL) to Feb 6, 2023.

Please find more details below:

Conditional and causal structures are a central aspect of human reasoning and
language, and have been extensively studied in fields such as linguistics,
psychology, and philosophy. However, there is still much to be learned about
the semantics of conditionals as well as the development and processing of
conditional structures in children.

We are pleased to announce a call for papers for the Middle East Technical
University Workshop on Conditional and Causal Reasoning (METU WCCR), which
will be hosted by Middle East Technical University Language and Cognitive
Development Laboratory (METU LCDL). We aim to bring together researchers
working on the semantics of conditional and causal structures as well as their
processing by children and adult populations.

Keynote speakers

- Sabine Iatridou (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)
- Magdalena Kaufmann (University of Connecticut)
- Stefan Kaufmann (University of Connecticut)
- Daniel Lassiter (University of Edinburgh)

Workshop Location: Gokova, Mugla-Turkiye.

Call For Abstracts

We welcome submissions from a wide range of disciplines, including but not
limited to linguistics, psychology, philosophy, and education. Potential
topics may include:

- Semantics of conditionals and causal discourse markers
- Experimental studies of conditional and causal reasoning in children and
adults
- The neural basis of conditional and causal reasoning
- The role of conditionals and causality in reasoning, decision-making, and
problem-solving
- The relationship between conditionals, causality, logic, and other aspects
of cognition
- Cross-linguistic variation in the expression and interpretation of
conditionals

Abstract Format
Abstracts should be no more than 500 words (with an extra page for the
references, tables/figures, and examples).

Important Dates
EXTENDED Deadline for abstract submission: February 06, 2023.
Notification of acceptance: February 15, 2023.
Workshop date: March 22nd and 23rd, 2023.

Workshop Format: The workshop will be in a hybrid-format. Two keynote speakers
will join us online via zoom while the other keynote speakers will join us in
person. All presenters are expected to attend in person unless they have
difficulties traveling from abroad. Those participants are expected to send
their video presentation 1 week prior to the conference and we expect them to
be available on zoom in their allocated slot for the Q&A session.

Participants who do not have a presentation can join online or in person.

Organizers: Duygu Ozge, Ecenur Cagirici, Asuman Simsek, Fatma Nur Ozturk, Alp
