Job Location: Kassel, Hesse, Germany

Job Title: University Professor (W2)
Job Rank: Full Professor

Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics; Cognitive Science;
Psycholinguistics; Empirical Linguistics

Required Language(s): English (eng)

Description:

W2-Professor (m/f/x): Applied and Empirical Linguistics in the English
Language (Reference Number: 36338)

Applicants are able to fully cover English linguistics in their
teaching and particularly focus on aspects related to applied and
empirical linguistics. Candidates are expected to have a profile that
will enable them to connect with the interdisciplinary and
trans-disciplinary content-related priorities in the different fields
geared towards linguistic theory and cultural studies within the
institute and the faculty. Candidates need to focus on empirically
based linguistics in their research and teaching and this should
preferably relate to aspects of psycholinguistic modelling with a
practical application or connect with cognitively oriented and
theoretical linguistic issues. The professor’s post should therefore
strengthen the links between the institute, faculty, and the emerging
research profile at the University of Kassel in the field of
sustainable transformation and therefore enhance subject matter that
is connected with diversity in language and culture or sustainable
education, for example.

Tasks:
The teaching tasks involve all the university courses in English and
American studies (teacher training courses, BA, MA) and in all the
study phases. The official duties not only include teaching and
research, but also encouraging early career researchers, e.g. in the
GeKKo (Humanities and Cultural Studies) graduate school, as well as
performing internal academic administrative procedures.

Prerequisites:
The candidate is expected to offer an internationally visible research
profile, which is geared towards interdisciplinary work. Research
activities must be documented by high-quality publications (preferably
peer-reviewed). We are also expecting the candidate to participate in
teaching and research initiatives in the Faculty and become involved
in expanding international cooperation structures.

The candidate is desired to have experience in acquiring and
completing externally funded, competitive projects. We are also
looking for a commitment to cooperate with international and
interdisciplinary teaching and research networks at the University of
Kassel, e.g. cooperation with the academic center known as the Kassel
Institute for Sustainability and involvement in teaching on the
planned BA course in Sustainability Communication.

The candidate must have gained an excellent PhD degree and have the
special qualification (postdoctoral thesis Habilitation or equivalent
academic accomplishments) to teach at a German university.
Candidates are invited to submit their applications with the
following:
 - a CV
 - a list of their writings
 - evidence of their experience in teaching and research work
 - activities related to external funding
 - a teaching concept and teaching evaluations
 - as well as any relevant certificates
The required qualifications and performance standards are specified in
Sections 67, 68 of the Hesse Higher Education Act.
